While Greta Thunberg transformed from a teenager seeking to save the planet from destruction to a political activist jumping on boats and hating Israel, her younger sister Beata seeks to maintain as much distance from her as possible while building a completely different career.

For those unfamiliar with the family's history, the sisters' mother, Malena Ernman, is a famous opera singer in Sweden who even represented the country at Eurovision in 2009. Their father is actor, film producer, and screenwriter Svante Thunberg.

Beata, who shortened her name to Bea and to distance herself as much as possible from her older sister also adopted her mother's surname Ernman, has tried in recent years to develop a career on stage as a singer, actress and model (not always with great success, it must be said) and even starred in a musical about Edith Piaf alongside her mother.

Despite her attempt to differentiate herself from her older sister, her image is bold in its own way, and a glance at her Instagram page or her performances, which include revealing clothing and provocative dances, makes it clear that she, too, is even happy to stir interest in explosive issues like sexuality and politics.

Bea, who celebrated her 20th birthday on November 3, plans to mark the occasion with a live musical performance on the stage of Stockholm's famous gay club Backdoor, which will take place next Friday.

Despite her efforts to ensure the family connection to Greta won't be identified, Greta herself is well aware of the price her sister and other family members pay for her activism and views.

"She's 13," she said in an interview with the Swedish press 7 years ago, "and she's being systematically subjected to bullying, threats, and harassment. The people who threaten me and hate me do it to my whole family, including her."

Antisemitic passerby throws coins at Dave Portnoy during pizza review https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/09/dave-portnoy-antisemitic-attack-jewish-billionaire-barstool-sports-pizza-review/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/09/dave-portnoy-antisemitic-attack-jewish-billionaire-barstool-sports-pizza-review/#respond Sun, 09 Nov 2025 08:00:46 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1101255 Jewish American billionaire Dave Portnoy experienced an antisemitic attack while filming his popular pizza review show.

While standing outside a pizzeria filming a review video for his successful show "One Bite Pizza Review," Jewish American billionaire and internet celebrity Dave Portnoy became a victim of an antisemitic act when a passerby shouted at him that "F*ck the Jews," threw coins at him, and then directed the same wish toward Portnoy himself.

The video capturing the antisemitic outburst rapidly went viral and generated millions of views on X and thousands of comments ranging from shock over the act and how antisemitic actions have become commonplace. "I have never witnessed antisemitism like this in my life. It's becoming overt, and it's coming from both sides. Israeli politics have always been complex, but this open antisemitism is simply insane," one follower tweeted in response to the video in one of the threads that developed on X.

"The man promotes gambling to teenagers through addictive games. Why should anyone sympathize with him?" one user posted against him, while others added that the person who shouted the curses at him is entitled to do so because his words are protected under free speech. "He's doing a pizza review. There's a time and place for everything," another user added. "This isn't the time or place. Let the man review his pizzas in peace." "It's time for Jews to stand up and fight back. The only way to defeat a bully is to confront them," one user wrote, and another added, "I'm not Jewish and all this antisemitism fills me with anger and helplessness. Sometimes I want to yell at them, sometimes I want to hit them. I can't imagine what our Jewish brothers and sisters feel."

This isn't the first time Portnoy (48), the owner of the successful website Barstool Sports, has found himself "starring" online due to incidents tainted with antisemitism. Last June, while filming a pizza review video for his show in Toronto, Canada, he encountered an attack similar to what he had just experienced when a passerby shouted exactly the same antisemitic curse at him. A month earlier, in May, two employees at his sports bar were fired after learning they waved a sign that said, "F*ck the Jews."

Huda Beauty in crisis as racism scandal erupts from within https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/04/huda-beauty-huda-kattan-racism-controversy-spokesperson/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/04/huda-beauty-huda-kattan-racism-controversy-spokesperson/#respond Tue, 04 Nov 2025 08:00:16 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1100287 Huda Beauty, the billion-dollar makeup brand created by Huda Kattan, terminated its partnership with Love Island personality Huda Mostafa after she didn't challenge racist language during a livestream session. This represents the brand's second significant controversy in four months, coming after accusations of antisemitism directed at Kattan. The firm declared Mostafa's conduct "doesn't reflect our brand's principles."

]]>
Only four months after Huda Kattan, founder of Huda Beauty, got caught in a global firestorm over antisemitic and racist content she posted on TikTok, she finds herself at the center of another storm. This time, as someone forced to denounce and reject racism from another source.

Last time around, Kattan faced accusations of spreading conspiracy theories against Israel, including baseless charges that the country was behind the world wars, the 9/11 attacks, and even Hamas's October 7, 2023, assault. Now she's dealing with a fresh storm that broke right inside her own organization – centered on the reality TV personality who, until very recently, served as one of the brand's public faces.

This past weekend, Huda Beauty announced through its official Instagram account the end of its business arrangement with Huda Mustafa, star of Love Island's seventh season. The message came in sharp, unambiguous language, citing "behavior that doesn't match the company's values."

@jeyandmeka Huda is in hot water and it seem to be causing her some brand deals!!! JEY AND MEKA STAND WITH OLANDRIA!! #huda #hudaandlouis #loveislandusa #hudamustafa #olandria ♬ Censor Beep Bleep (Version 3) [TV Television Censorship Bleep Out Censored] [Sound Effect] - Finnolia Sound Effects

The trigger was a livestream Mustafa hosted with her boyfriend, ex-reality star Louis Russell. During the session, an anonymous commenter threw out a racist remark aimed at Alexandria Carchán, another contestant from the same season. Rather than calling out the comment or ending the broadcast, Mustafa and Russell looked uncomfortable and laughed, acknowledging it was "a bad and horrible word" but failing to show any real pushback.

Hours later, the clip had spread throughout the web and gone viral. Public fury came swiftly, and responses followed just as fast.

The company stated, "We are truly disappointed by Huda Mustafa's recent live and we take all forms of racism very seriously. While we don't believe her actions reflect her character, we found them deeply upsetting. We know that many members of our community and our team were offended by these actions. While we valued the partnership we had with Huda, her recent behaviour, and the way the situation has been handled does not reflect our brand's principles." The message continued, "Please remember this is about accountability, not canceling people."

Days later, Huda Beauty scrubbed all references to Mustafa from its official site and social channels, barely a month after they'd jointly unveiled a glitzy campaign for the fresh makeup collection. Kattan herself had called the partnership "one of the most coveted and thrilling" projects for the brand.

Mustafa first attempted to clarify that she hadn't caught the racist remark, but once the footage went viral, she issued a public apology to Carchán. She insisted she'd laughed "from discomfort, not from indifference."

Carchán fired back on Instagram, posting, "Language like that carries generations of anguish. Acting like it's no big deal just keeps the pattern going."

The online community split down the middle – some applauded Huda Beauty for taking a firm stance, while others charged the company with double standards, especially given Kattan's own remarks mere months before. Mostafa, meanwhile, hasn't taken down the campaign materials but has stayed quiet following her apology.

Huda Beauty, worth more than a billion dollars, constructed its reputation around inclusion, empowerment, and diversity. Yet the ongoing turmoil highlights the friction between promotional messaging and the messy realities of digital life.

For Kattan, who took heat herself for antisemitic comments only months back, this moment feels especially delicate. Sephora, the brand's primary retail partner, even stated back then it was "reviewing the situation." Now, with the brand attempting to signal absolute intolerance toward racism, Huda Beauty appears compelled to wrestle once more with that recurring question – what does "beauty" really mean in an age when everything faces moral scrutiny, too?

Justin Baldoni lost his $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively after missing a court filing deadline.

Baldoni's high-profile $400 million defamation and extortion lawsuit against Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and The New York Times was officially dismissed after Baldoni failed to meet a court-ordered deadline to amend his complaint.

In a ruling published on October 31, Judge Lewis Liman of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York determined that Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, failed to respond to an order directing them to explain why a final judgment should not be entered. As a result, the lawsuit was permanently closed.

The affair, which began as a sharp conflict between actors who became rivals, expanded into a stormy legal dispute that ignited Hollywood and led to a deep rift in Lively's close relationships, including the one with Taylor Swift, who was a close friend of Lively until the crisis erupted. According to reports, Swift's name was linked to the proceedings when she was asked to testify, but in practice, she avoids being directly involved and maintains distance from everything related to the legal drama – a choice that, sources claim, ended the longtime friendship between the two.

The new ruling marks the end of an affair that was already on the verge of collapse on Baldoni's side since June, when Judge Liman dismissed Baldoni's original complaint. At that time, the court determined that Baldoni's defamation claims lacked a legal foundation, as many of the statements he relied upon – including excerpts from the sexual harassment complaint Lively filed and the article published in The New York Times – were protected under the doctrine of reporting immunity and legal privilege.

While the latest ruling essentially nullifies Baldoni's lawsuit for defamation and extortion, it is likely not yet the final outcome of the story. He retains the right to appeal after the court rules on Lively's motion for reimbursement of legal expenses. However, this represents a significant defeat for the director and actor, who had called their lawsuit a "counterattack" as part of a legal battle that became one of the most turbulent, publicized, and messy in Hollywood.

Baldoni filed the lawsuit in January 2025, shortly after Lively filed a lawsuit against him for sexual harassment on the set of the film "It Ends With Us," which he directed and in which he also starred in the lead role alongside her. In her lawsuit, filed in December 2024, Lively claimed that Baldoni behaved in a harassing manner during filming, including an incident in which he "leaned forward and moved his lips from her ear to her neck slowly," and told her, "It smells so good." She added that he pressured her to include a graphic sex scene and made intrusive comments about her private life with her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds.

After Lively's lawsuit became public, Baldoni accused Lively, Reynolds, and The New York Times of attempting to destroy his reputation through a coordinated smear campaign, relying on an article published in the newspaper in December 2024 under the headline "We Can Bury Anyone: Inside Hollywood's Spin Machine," which described the filing of Lively's complaint to California's Civil Rights Department and discussed in detail the tensions surrounding the film's production.

The ruling issued this week closes, at least for now, Baldoni's offensive side, but leaves Lively's lawsuit open, which may reveal more details about what happened behind the scenes of the controversial film.

Halloween gave Ayda Field, wife of British pop star Robbie Williams, perfect material for roasting her husband after he was caught having words with one of his most famous ex-girlfriends directly in front of her.

In fairness, the ex-girlfriend in question wasn't actually there in human form – just as a skeleton sporting a red wig and tiny minidress with the British flag. However, for Williams' followers and those familiar with his romantic past, it took no detective work to identify who this represented and why Field captioned the video she and Williams shared with millions of Instagram fans with the declaration, "Halloween got heated last night."

The video, which has pulled in more than 900,000 views to date, also captures her ordering Williams to quit talking to her, and even delivering a slap (playfully, naturally).

For anyone not quite up to speed on Williams' love life – he's been married to American actress Field for ten years and they've welcomed four children together – back in 2000, rumors swirled for months that Williams and Geri Halliwell (53), better known as Ginger Spice from British girl band Spice Girls (now going by Geri Horner since marrying Formula 1 team principal Christian Horner in 2015), had taken their friendship to the next level. The connection originally centered on mutual support – she backed him through recovery efforts while he stood by her during her battle with bulimia.

The supposed romance fizzled fairly quickly, and reports indicate Williams became convinced Halliwell was tipping off paparazzi about their whereabouts whenever they stepped out or got together, ensuring cameras were ready and waiting. Williams later acknowledged his headspace during that period was far from healthy (he spent years battling addiction to alcohol and drugs), and he'd bought into these rumors unfairly, which pushed him to end things with her. His track "Eternity," featured on his 2004 greatest hits collection, drew inspiration from their bond.

In the midst of the stormy election campaign in New York, a new campaign video featuring Zohran Mamdani, the Muslim socialist candidate whose positions on Israel, Judaism, and the LGBTQ+ community have sparked controversy, has shaken public discourse in the US and beyond, becoming a divisive political symbol.

The video, produced in partnership with the Jewish organization "Jews for Racial and Economic Justice," features four rabbis – three women and a transgender rabbi – expressing open support for Mamdani. Among the rabbis featured is Avi Stein, a transgender activist who left the ultra-Orthodox community, selected for the campaign as a symbol of personal transformation (which also received extensive media coverage) and an important voice in the LGBTQ+ community, in an effort to neutralize criticism surrounding Mamdani's positions on LGBTQ+ rights.

In the video, which went viral online and generated hundreds of responses, the rabbis wear campaign shirts and recite text praising Mamdani's positions on affordable housing, social justice, community safety, and protecting minority rights.

Statements such as "We know Zohran will fight to make our city affordable and safe for our families and for our neighbors of all faiths and backgrounds" attempt to present Mamdani as a solidary and progressive figure. However, the video deliberately ignores significant aspects of his legacy: support for the BDS boycott movement, refusal to clearly condemn anti-Jewish slogans and anti-Israel rhetoric, alongside recurring claims of anti-LGBTQ+ positions leveled against him.

Reactions to the video were swift, and as expected, the dominant tone mixed blunt criticism with sustained mockery. Within the Jewish community, particularly among conservative rabbis, the video was described as "cringe," "cynical," and "manipulative," with criticism that Mamdani is using diverse rabbis to gain public legitimacy while failing to address the deep problems in his conduct.

Online commenters added the video was "embarrassing and bizarre," "I thought it couldn't get worse – wait for this" and "A ridiculous ad that looks like an unfunny skit. Next time, Zohran, try reaching out to the Jewish community, instead of insulting Jews by promoting fringe opinions of 3 female rabbis and a transgender rabbi."

Another shocking case of attack in Europe: A 13-year-old boy was verbally assaulted severely on the anniversary of the October 7 events at his school in Scotland and received explicit death threats on his life.

A post shared by Leah Benoz (@leahbenoz)

"I don't want to have to make this video, but I do," Scottish journalist and political commentator Leah Benoz began the story she shared on Tuesday with thousands of her Instagram followers, telling about the severe antisemitic attack her 13-year-old son experienced at the school where he studies in Scotland, all because of his Judaism.

"I'm going to ask you all to watch it and to share it as widely and as loudly as you are able," she urged her followers, then recounted the sequence of events, whose timing was, of course, not coincidental – October 7. "This morning, the anniversary of the October 7th attacks and days after two Jewish men were murdered in Manchester."

Later, she added about the incident: "My child called me from his high school in Edinburgh to tell me that another child had threatened to stab him in the classroom. Yesterday, my child had come home upset saying that this other kid had demanded that he give a position on the Israel-Palestine conflict, that he explain his position on the conflict and with as much nuance and compassion that a frightened 13 year old was able to, he explained that the war is awful and he wants it to end but that he does feel a deep connection to Israel because he's Jewish."

"This child then harassed my son for hours, told him that all Israelis are terrorists, that Israelis shoot babies in the head, that he is a terrorist, that he told other children that my son believes that all Palestinians should die," she shared. "That is what it means to be Jewish in Scotland right now, and simultaneously, right at the same time, students at Edinburgh University are calling for an intifada. What does that mean? They are chanting right now in support of the kind of beliefs that think that a 13-year-old Jewish boy should die because of a war 3,000 miles away. This child that attacked my son, he's been radicalised at home, he is a product of an ecosystem of hate that has been allowed to fester. We cannot allow this to continue."

She ended by conveying "a final note for anti-Zionists, I'm going to take my exceptional child and I'm going to move to Israel and we are going to spend the rest of our lives committed to our homeland."

The video gained more than 42,000 views within hours and thousands of likes and comments expressing shock and anger at the story she shared, calling for her to file a police complaint, including American Emmy-winning actress and voice actor Tara Strong, who herself went viral about two years ago when she shared that she was fired from a series she voiced because of her Judaism and the fact that she expressed support for Israel. "What does the school intend to do? This is a death threat. What will the police do? I'm so sorry you're going through this," she wrote in response.

Benoz updated that a complaint was indeed filed with police, and she is waiting for a response from law enforcement officials. Other followers wrote in despair that it's likely that not only will they not handle her complaint, but there's a chance that she will find herself on the investigated side, since they will claim her words are Islamophobic, and that schools don't really act to handle death threats of this type.

"They enable and forgive displays of racism and violence against Jews and incite them. This is the spirit. This is global and systematic." Others encouraged her to stand behind her words and indeed make aliyah, while Benoz, who for now doesn't want to reveal the school's name in order not to expose her son to additional displays of violence and hatred, asked to clarify that she won't let the matter rest until it's handled and wrote: "They messed with the wrong mother."

Following last week's dramatic announcement of Jimmy Kimmel's suspension from his ABC late-night show, popular host Seth Meyers is now facing an uncertain professional future. According to reports in US entertainment outlets, Meyers has become the next target of President Donald Trump in the late-night arena.

Kimmel, 57, was suspended last week in what industry insiders said was the result of political pressure, after his scathing criticism of murdered activist Charlie Kirk.

In his Monday night monologue, Kimmel denounced what he called the "MAGA gang," accusing the right of "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

He later mocked Trump's response to questions about the murder, when the president chose instead to talk about building a ballroom. Conservatives quickly celebrated Kimmel's downfall, and Trump himself posted a gleeful message on his Truth Social platform, which read like a hit list: "That leaves Jimmy and Seth," he wrote.

For Meyers, 51, who has hosted "Late Night with Seth Meyers" since 2014, the message is a clear warning. "I know Seth is rattled by all of this," said journalist and lawyer Matthew Belloni of the entertainment site Puck. Sources in the industry told the British Daily Mail that Meyers could indeed be the next to go, as networks try to move away from overtly political content so as not to draw the ire of Washington's power circles.

Hollywood commentators are already describing the situation as the start of a "hunting season," with Trump cast as the "hunter." He "points out his targets by name, celebrates their downfall, and pressures the networks to carry out the actual kill." For comedians who have built careers on political satire, they add, "the daily writing process has shifted from risky satire to something that puts their jobs directly in jeopardy, and fear is everywhere."

Meyers, who rose to prominence on the biting sketch show Saturday Night Live and later established himself as a sharp political voice in late-night television, did not stay silent. On his show, he accused the Trump administration of "a campaign to suppress free speech," citing threats made by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr in the wake of Kimmel's comments.

The suspensions and cancellations are not limited to Kimmel and Meyers. CBS has already announced that Stephen Colbert's show, hosted by Trump's fiercest late-night critic, will end in May. While the network cited "business reasons," Paramount's $16 million settlement payment to Trump over a controversial interview with Vice President Kamala Harris has fueled speculation that the move was also politically motivated.

The dramatic move illustrating the scale of the crisis that began in July now comes as Sephora, the global chain and exclusive North American retailer that has sold the brand's products since 2015, decided to remove Huda Beauty from the upcoming fall "Experts" campaign, according to reports on the media website Puck. The campaign represents one of the largest and most important makeup campaigns in the chain, designed to provide a platform for leading brands led by professional makeup artists.

The campaign expected to launch next September will include brands like Westman Atelier by Gucci Westman, One/Size by Patrick Star, Makeup by Mario by Mario Dedivanovic, and possibly the M.ph brand by Mary Phillips and Hung Vanngo, which will begin selling at Sephora on August 22 and September 8 respectively. The absence of Kattan ,41, who leads one of the best-selling makeup brands in the store, is nothing less than an earthquake for the beauty industry.

Kattan was supposed to serve as a central figure in the campaign with prominent visibility in storefront windows, at the front of stores, and on display tables. This represents one of the largest makeup campaigns of the year, with most brand activities built around the messages and visibility presented in it. Removing the brand from the campaign so close to launch is a complex and expensive logistical move reflected in significant changes to creative content, inventory, and internal and external communications updates. A source close to Sephora described it as "moving mountains" – a serious decision that signals red flags about the scale of the storm.

The video that sparked the storm

The controversy began when Kattan shared a video on her TikTok with millions of her followers in July, in which she made false claims not supported by historical facts that Israel was responsible for World War I and World War II, the September 11 attacks, and the Hamas attack in October 2023.

The video gained wide exposure but also aroused much anger and criticism among Jewish communities and international organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, which responded sharply and called for exposing the antisemitic narratives being spread. Following numerous reports, TikTok removed the video for what it justified as "violating platform rules."

Sephora, owned by luxury goods giant LVMH, initially maintained ambiguity and a cautious response. In early August, it published an official statement saying it was examining the situation and working in cooperation with the brand, and later updated that it had opened an internal investigation and clarified that promoting hatred, harassment, or false information stands in complete opposition to its values.

Following the storm, Kattan, known for frequently criticizing Israel and holding firm pro-Palestinian views, published a lengthy response video about two weeks ago in which she claimed her words were misinterpreted and that the original video was criticism of Israeli policy only, not about Jews or Judaism. According to her claim, she removed the video herself after seeing that its content had been altered, and she accused her critics of spreading a defamation campaign against her.

What happens from here?

Huda Beauty is one of the leading and most successful brands at Sephora, showing high double-digit growth this year compared to low growth in the overall makeup category in the market. Kattan, born in the US to parents of Iraqi origin, established in 2013 a brand that became an international empire with an estimated value of about $1.2 billion. In 2025, the brand continues to constitute the central anchor in Sephora's US sales. Although the brand is also sold on leading international websites like Harrods and Nykaa, it relies almost entirely on exclusive distribution through Sephora in North America.

Despite the dramatic move, removing the brand will not happen easily or quickly. Planning locations and campaigns at Sephora is done many months in advance, and the change and adaptation process is expected to take at least half a year. During this time, the chain must plan the placement of new brands that will duplicate the importance and consumer tendency of Huda Beauty, a particularly complex and challenging task.

The future presents both Kattan and Sephora with numerous conflicts. Sephora faces moral and business pressures simultaneously, and must decide between continuing the partnership with a brand that essentially brings it hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue, versus standing firm and adhering to its guiding values while considering the broader public reaction (which includes, alongside all those opposing her, millions of fans who support her).

Kattan herself also faces an internal crisis of trust that requires her to decide between hardening her position or attempting correction and compromise between her values and beliefs as a private person versus being a businesswoman generating billions in sales revenue.

Anyone browsing X (formerly Twitter) during recent days encountered numerous posts from outraged users claiming that after completing purchases at various locations, they received brief but offensive messages following checkout that offered opportunities to donate money for Gaza residents.

Customer Laura Green shared on Tuesday that following her completed purchase at Athleta (owned by Gap), she received a message encouraging donations for Gaza residents. Green, outraged by political messaging mixed with consumer transactions in such one-sided fashion, published an angry Instagram post sharing her furious company response.

"Why are you raising money for families in Gaza?" she wrote indignantly, adding, "Why aren't you raising money for families in Israel? Israel was decimated by Hamas on October 7. The only people starving in Gaza are the Israeli hostages. I shouldn't see this when I check out. It will make me think about placing an order again," she concluded while tagging Athleta.

Her post caption, which accumulated hundreds of comments, stated, "Just placed an order online with Athleta. After I checked out, the option to donate to Gazan families popped up. What about Israeli families? What about Israeli children who were kidnapped and murdered? What about the hostages? How about asking for Donations to help them? I will think twice before shopping again. BRING THEM HOME!!! " she demanded.

Green's post rapidly accumulated hundreds of comments and likes as users voiced outrage and threatened chain boycotts, noting similar messages appeared for customers purchasing AMC theater tickets.

"Another store added to my boycott list," wrote one user. "I was planning a major purchase there. How many customers will you sacrifice?" another frustrated user demanded, tagging both retailers as dozens joined the boycott threats. "This is inappropriate and completely unacceptable," others responded. "This is scandalous. This is completely wrong and I will never shop your stores again, which is what every Jewish customer should do," one user concluded.

Currently, despite the controversy and dozens of social media tags, neither Athleta nor Gap has issued official responses.

The company Rokt, issued the following statement: "A fundraising campaign for the humanitarian organization CARE.org was activated on Rokt. Rokt enables content, including advertising, to be shown on ecommerce company websites. Our role is to be a trusted intermediary, enabling our clients to decide what is shown to their customers. Our clients had not had an active role in deciding whether this campaign would be displayed. As a result, as soon as we became aware of the concerns being raised, we took down the campaign immediately. We have humans review all content that goes live on our platform and this one slipped through. The last thing we want to do is create friction around this sensitive issue."
