The graffiti appeared a few hours after the conclusion of a rally in support of Israel held in the local municipal plaza.

"When you use all possible means to slaughter innocents, and young people, women, babies and even elderly in wheelchairs are kidnapped for the sole reason that they are Jews and Israelis, the only possible response is to eliminate the head of the octopus who openly says that he is prepared to attack Jews and Israelis all over the world," said Gabriel Senderowicz, president of the Porto Jewish community.

"The happiest day on the Jewish calendar [Simchat Torah] has given way to tears in synagogues, where people ask what about the human rights of Jews and don't want to hear empty words anymore," he added.
