EU's hypocrisy knows no bounds

Every day that the European Union chooses to appease the Iranian regime bring us a step closer to a military confrontation between the West and the Islamic republic.

In their rush to condemn the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the European Union did not even mention him by name, nor did they say that Fakhrizadeh played a crucial role in developing Iran's military nuclear program.

EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell stressed that the murder contradicts "the principle of protecting human life, for which the European Union stands." He referred to Fakhrizadeh simply as an "Iranian government official," expressed condolences to the victims' families and those who were injured in the attack. Borrell called on the countries "to remain calm and exercise maximum restraint in order to avoid escalation, which cannot be in anyone's interests."

Borrell's disregard for Fakhrizadeh's involvement in the development of Iran's nuclear program is a testament to the European Union's hypocrisy. The EU cares more about comforting the Iranian regime than about mobilizing alongside the US and Israel to increase pressure on Tehran to abandon its nuclear program.

Europe is afraid that before Joe Biden enters the White House – if that happens – Donald Trump and his allies in the Middle East might provoke Iran and find a reason to attack the regime. Such a move will create an irreversible reality for the potential democratic government.

Europe's submissive attitude towards Iran is not only embarrassing but outright terrifying. The latest reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency leave no room for naivety. Iran publicly violates the nuclear agreement and is dangerously close to obtaining the amount of enriched uranium required to build a nuclear bomb. Such a bomb would not threaten the US, but it would pose a threat to Europe.

The European Union contributed to the failure of the nuclear agreement. Every day that the EU chooses to appease the Iranian regime, they bring us a step closer to a military confrontation. If the EU truly stood for human rights, it would have long severed all ties with Tehran's murderous regime. Europe is Iran's silent partner in crime. It has no right to preach morality to others.
