Have you no shame?

In the minds of protesters outside the Farkash home in Caesarea, nothing you can do is worthwhile unless you support the prime minister.

There are many ways to divide the world in two – right and left, religious and secular, black and white, men and women, vegans and carnivores.

In truth, human beings can only be divided in one way – those that lost a child and those that never did. Some look at family photos and see the whole while others see what is missing. Some will be proud of their children's achievements. Others will only imagine what their children's accomplishments could have been. There is no such thing as no longer having a child – they exist, but they can only be hugged in one's dream. But, in order to have a dream, one needs to be able to fall asleep.

This is of no interest to the Likud supporters that protested outside the Farkash family home in Caesarea because they dared to participate in demonstrations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In their minds, you either support Netanyahu, or you don't. Whoever does not support the prime minister is an anarchist and a traitor who is beyond redemption.

Likud supporters do not care what good non-Likud supporters do in life because nothing that they do, no matter how significant, can ever be compared to supporting Netanyahu. Working to contribute to society, creative work, development for the good of the whole, or even placing one's life on the line – none of these are redeeming qualities. Gone are the days when you received praise for your achievements in life; everything has an expiration date.

No, grieving does not provide you with special privileges. In the past, however, mourning the loss of a loved one in war used to be a mitigating factor. Not so in today's society.

The demonstrators that stood outside the Farkash family home for more than an hour shouted expletives at the bereaved mother, such as "There is a God and he punished her. May she lose another child."

The condemnation from the Likud was trivial. They waited to see how Netanyahu would react before daring to make a sound. Likud ministers lack the courage, virtue, or desire to adhere to the basic principles of the social behavior expected between a man and his neighbor.

The parents of Cpt. Tom Farkash buried their child 14 years ago. A part of them has remained with him on that day in the cemetery in Caesarea. Another part of them died this week, murdered on Tuesday night by vile protesters and those who remained silent.
