Hamas expected to announce Gaza disarmament

Hamas is close to announcing that it will disarm, according to diplomatic sources in the US and Israel. They said the proposal was a detailed and rigorous framework for the full and complete dismantling of the terrorist organization's weapons and tunnel network, with one source describing the development as Hamas' "surrender."

Meanwhile, the Saudi Al-Hadath reported that the US had agreed to a Hamas proposal to hand over its weapons to the Palestinian technocratic committee expected to assume control of the Gaza Strip. The report did not specify whether this would include all of Hamas' weapons or only its rockets, nor did it detail the conditions for the transfer.

A diplomatic source involved in the talks said negotiations with the mediators were continuing in Cairo and making progress. The parties were advancing a framework based on the Trump plan, under which all weapons would be dismantled and authority would be transferred in stages to a technocratic government. "There will be no exceptions for certain weapons or certain individuals. One authority, one law, one weapon," the source said.

At the end of the process, the source added, no terrorist infrastructure would remain in Gaza. Hamas would have no role, either openly or behind the scenes under a Hezbollah-style model, and all heavy and light weapons would be placed under the full control of the supervisory body, in coordination with forces on the ground.

Wissam Afifa, a Gaza-based commentator closely identified with Hamas, said the proposed wording applied only to "heavy weapons" and to capabilities related to their production and deployment. He said the proposal was to place those weapons in storage under the supervision of the technocratic committee, rather than hand them over to Israel.
