As the Passover holiday ended, the Alexander family authorized the publication of the proof of life. On Saturday, the eve of the festival marking the Jewish people's liberation from slavery, Hamas released a video of captive soldier Edan Alexander.
This is part of Hamas' typical and cruel propaganda tactics during times of war. This time, the release was particularly calculated, coinciding with the Seder night, a time symbolizing freedom. Israeli security officials are analyzing the video.

Video: proof of life video of hostage Edan Alexander
Made Aliyah alone and enlisted, captured at the base gate
Edan Alexander, a US citizen currently held by Hamas and still officially listed as alive, was taken captive on October 7. Alexander grew up in New Jersey and made Aliyah to Israel at the age of 18 with the goal of joining the Israel Defense Forces. He volunteered for service in the Golani Brigade and divided his time between living with his grandparents in Tel Aviv and with other lone soldiers at Kibbutz Hatzor.
Despite being entitled to leave for the weekend due to his lone soldier status, Alexander chose to remain on base for Simchat Torah, even though his mother Yael was visiting from the US. During the early moments of the Hamas attack, he managed to speak with her and informed her that he had been lightly injured by shrapnel to his helmet, but that he was otherwise all right.
