A senior Palestinian source told Arabic-language media on Sunday that Cairo had presented a mediation proposal aimed at bridging the gap between the framework accepted by Hamas and the demands set out by Israel. Neither Israel nor Hamas has responded so far to the Egyptian proposal.
According to the Palestinian source, Egypt is optimistic about the proposal's chances of success, in light of the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, scheduled to take place Monday in Washington. The source added that "Hamas has shown flexibility during its meetings with Egyptian officials regarding the day after the ceasefire."

In recent days, Hamas has leaked details about a proposal presented by the mediators on March 27. According to those details, during a 50-day pause in fighting in Gaza, five hostages would be released, including Edan Alexander, who also holds American citizenship.
In return, under that framework, Israel would release 250 terrorists, including 150 serving life sentences, as well as 2,000 Palestinians from Gaza who were arrested on various charges following the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023.
