Israeli energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen signed an order on Sunday instructing the Israel Electric Corporation to immediately halt the supply of electricity to Gaza.
In an official document issued by the Energy and Infrastructure Ministry, Cohen stated that he is "acting under the authority of the license granted to the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd. on September 4, 1997."
"I hereby instruct the licensee to cease the sale of electricity to the Gaza Strip," reads the order signed today. This step is part of a series of decisions made by the Israeli Diplomatic-Security Cabinet in recent months regarding Gaza, in light of the ongoing war since October 7.
Officials at the Energy Ministry confirmed that the directive takes effect immediately, and the Israel Electric Corporation is expected to implement it within hours.
