During his address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, making several claims and promises. Trump asserted that the October 7 attack on Israel "would have never happened" if he were still in office. He also stated that during his administration, "Iran was broke, they had no money for Hamas or Hezbollah."

Trump declared he is actively "working to get the hostages back from the Israel-Hamas war." He lamented the condition of some returning hostages, stating, "Some are coming home in very bad condition, and many are dead." Trump emphasized the youth of the victims, saying, "these are largely young people... they don't die like this, but they're dead".
He also mentioned family members of those still held hostage. "We will not rest until all of the hostages have been returned home," he vowed. He added, "It's my hope that my greatest Legacy will be as a peacemaker, not a conqueror."
Trump mentioned that there is a current ceasefire in Gaza. He also expressed the importance of retrieving the bodies of those who died, recounting conversations with parents: "Sir, could you get my son back? How old is he, sir? My son is dead,". He emphasized that "getting the body back is just as important as getting the son back healthy."
