The IDF launched a preemptive strike in Lebanon early Sunday, following intelligence reports indicating Hezbollah's preparations for a significant missile and rocket attack against Israel. This operation comes after weeks of heightened alertness in the wake of high-profile assassinations in Beirut and Tehran. The IDF's state of readiness has incorporated visual intelligence gathering from both air force assets and regional partners.

In the predawn hours, Israeli intelligence detected Hezbollah's positioning in rocket-launch areas, with some weapons aimed at central Israel, though the majority targeted the country's north. Beginning at 5 a.m., the IDF neutralized thousands of launch sites, primarily those directed northward. The operation involved the simultaneous deployment of about 100 aircraft. Israeli military sources report that most of Hezbollah's threats were thwarted without casualties.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari emphasized the significance of the coming days in a public statement. The overnight detection of preparations in rocket-launching zones led Israeli officials to conclude that this was not merely another episode in the ongoing tit-for-tat with Hezbollah but potentially a coordinated response from Hezbollah and Iran to recent assassinations.
The operation, aimed at eliminating the immediate threat, targeted every area where Hezbollah was identified as preparing to launch attacks on Israel. Military intelligence suggested Hezbollah's intentions included the use of rockets, unmanned aerial vehicles, and possibly missiles against Israeli urban centers.
While Israel is currently conducting the operation independently, all activities are being carried out in full coordination with the United States, which was briefed in advance. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been stationed at the defense headquarters in Tel Aviv throughout the night and into the morning. In light of these developments, the scheduled government meeting for Sunday has been canceled. Israeli officials indicate that all response options remain under consideration.
