Israelis took to the streets Wednesday morning to celebrate the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, with residents in southern towns distributing sweets and fruits to passersby.
The celebrations, marked by the sharing of baklava and watermelons, reflect the public's reaction to the overnight operation that targeted the high-ranking Hamas official.

In Sderot, residents took to the streets, distributing baklava and sweets to passersby.

In one of the supermarkets in the Krayot area, people handed out fruits and watermelon to passersby. Eyal Ravid, CEO of Victory supermarket chain, posted a photo of a table set up in one of the chain's branches.
These celebrations leave a sour taste in the mouths of many, as Palestinians carried out similar acts upon news of the death of Israelis and Jews many times before. They believe that performing such actions is sinking to the level of the enemy and does not reflect Jewish and Israeli values or sentiments.
