According to reporting by The Telegraph, Hamas has produced a video showing the torture of Israeli hostages in an attempt to pressure Israel into improving conditions for Palestinian prisoners. The video directly addresses Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's national security minister responsible for prison policy.
Two Israeli officials informed The Telegraph that the video depicts hostages being tortured while Hamas warns that stricter conditions for Palestinian prisoners in Israel are impacting the well-being of captives in Gaza. As of now, the IDF and the Shin Bet claim that as far as they know, no such videos were shown to Ben-Gvir.
Since taking office in December 2022, the minister has prioritized worsening conditions for Palestinian prisoners detained for involvement in terror activities, leading to conflicts with the Shin Bet intelligence agency, which feared such actions could spark another violent confrontation with Hamas.
In August 2022, Ben-Gvir stated, "The prisons had begun reducing as much as possible the indulgences for Hamas terrorists and stopping 'summer camp' that was going on in the prison wings in the past." He also ordered restrictions on inmates making their own pita bread and limited hot showers in one prison.
Since Oct. 7, Israel has arrested thousands of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, being either members of terror organizations or involved in terror activities.
Video: Israeli interrogation of father and son confessing to rape and murder of civilians on Oct. 7
In an exclusive interview with Israel Hayom in December, Advanced Staff Sgt. Maj. Mowafaq Asakla, who oversees a prison facility in which Hamas terrorists and their complicit are being held, shared what it is like to work near the people who committed the atrocities of Oct. 7: "One of them looked at me and started wailing, he cried, said he was just a construction worker who came to Israel to find work and that he had no money for food for his children. He kept saying, 'I'm a worker, I'm a worker. I didn't do anything,'" he recalled.
"He tried to get me to pity him. I didn't reply and didn't look in his direction. All that was going through my mind were the terrible videos [of atrocities committed on Oct. 7] that Hamas had uploaded on Telegram. The next day I found out who he was when I saw his personal belongings. He was not a worker, he was a murderer who had killed a young [Israeli] woman and her young son in cold blood, who had used a knife while they were alive and then shot them in the head. And that's just the tip of the iceberg."
In May, The Daily Mail obtained a chilling video confession of a father and son from Gaza who have revealed to Israeli investigators how they killed and raped innocent civilians after taking part in the Hamas invasion on Oct. 7.
