US President Joe Biden's announcement Thursday that his administration would set up a pier to deliver food to Gazans was part of ongoing discussions, an Israeli official told Israel Hayom, saying this was coordinated to some degree.

The official said, "Israel welcomes and supports the establishment of a temporary pier to allow for increased humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza." The official then added that "the initiative was discussed between the two countries and will be implemented in coordination between the parties."
A top European Union official was in Cyprus on Friday to inspect preparations to send aid to war-ravaged Gaza by sea, just hours after President Joe Biden announced that the US military will set up a temporary port off Gaza's Mediterranean coast to support deliveries.
