Alongside many stories of heroism by soldiers and security forces, including self-sacrifice and dedication, the Bedouin sector also has heroic citizens who endangered themselves and acted to counter the Hamas terrorists with whatever means they could and in an improvised way after the surprise assault, which ended up with the murder of some 1,200 Israelis.
The organization, headed by Canadian social activist and philanthropist Abraham "Avi" Benlolo regularly promotes the fight against antisemitism and BDS. The organization held the event in collaboration with the museum, which also operates against antisemitism and BDS.
The ceremony was held on the museum's premises. During the ceremony certificates of merit were distributed by Benlolo together with Oz Davidian, who saved many young people from the Nova rave that was targeted during that day and serves as a member of The Authority for Development and Settlement of the Bedouin in the Negev, to 13 Bedouin heroes.
Former President Reuven (Ruby) Rivlin was also in attendance, as well as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and member of the Diplomatic-Security Cabinetv Avi Dichter.
Among the stories of heroism, there was that of Ismail Al-Karnawi, who left Rahat with three other family members towards Kibbutz Be'eri in order to rescue residents from the inferno.
Sari Al-Karnawi served as a police officer at the Nova party and rescued partygoers from the attack. Muhammad Abu Najah, an employee of the cleaning company at Nova, fought against the terrorists, called first responders, and warned others of the presence of terrorists. He stopped passing vehicles and directed them not to drive towards the terrorists.
Omar Abu Sabeelah was in Sderot near the police station when the terrorists stormed into the city on October 7. He heard a woman's scream and saw Odaya Suissa with her two daughters, aged 6 and 3, and her husband Dolev who was shot dead by the terrorists. Despite being wounded, Sabeelah managed to reach the girls in the car, get them out, and bring them to the police station but he ultimately succumbed to his wounds. His brother accepted the award on his behalf.
Yousef Alziyadneh saved the lives of about 30 Nova party revelers under fire. Anis Abu Dabbus, a senior paramedic crew at the Rahat Magen David Adom station, acted with his crew in the Rahat and Ofaqim area, treated the wounded, and provided lifesaving treatment to many: Arabs and Jews, children, adults, and the elderly, under fire and missile attacks.
