The report also notes that 45% of all antisemitic incidents in 2023 occurred in the US, compared to 39% across Europe. Compared to 2022, there has been a 33% increase in the scale of violent incidents against Jews, with six murdered in the US, Egypt, and Tunisia.
On social media, there has been a 1,200% surge over the past year in posts with antisemitic content. In November-December 2023, most were detected on Twitter (68%), despite owner Elon Musk vowing to crack down on such instances. On TikTok, Facebook, Telegram, and Instagram there were far fewer cases of antisemitism reported.
Minister for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli said following the publication of the report that "the Jewish people have not experienced such intensities of hatred since the 1930s. Back then it was Nazi race theory, and today it is the obsessive hatred towards the State of Israel."
According to the report, in the two months following October 7, there was a 337% increase in antisemitic incidents in the US compared to the parallel period in 2022. This is also the largest number of incidents since 1979 when documentation of antisemitic phenomena began. There has also been a disturbing surge in Europe in 2023, and the number of antisemitic incidents in the UK since October 7 was the highest there since documentation began in 1984.
More than 1,800 incidents were reported in France in 2023, and on Thursday Israel Hayom published that since October 7 there has been a 1,000% increase in the number of antisemitic incidents there -- which, according to the Ministry of Aliyah and IIntegration has led to a 400% increase in the number of applicants for aliyah from France.
Israel Hayom has learned that following the surge in aliyah applications, Minister Ofir Sofer is expected to present a new program in the coming days week that will include, among other things, rental assistance, increased Hebrew studies, and job placement.
