Netanyahu, who spoke just hours after Israel declared "a new phase" in the campaign to topple Hamas with a large-scale military incursion into the Gaza Strip, said that the war to topple Hamas and ends its military capabilities will be long, "but we will fight it together and win it together. "

With some 300,000 troops called up from the IDF reserves, he called this "the Second War of Independence" and said that we "will fight Hamas in the air, in the land, and in the sea," saying that this was a continuation of the war that has started 3,000 years ago to establish Jewish independence in the Jewish homeland.
"We are all united in delivering the proper retaliation to the horrors committed by the enemy...for the sake of the entire human race," Netanyahu said. "We have destroyed many HQs and eliminated many of its murderers, and we have only just begun. The campaign will be long. This is our second War of Independence – we will fight together and we will win together."
