The third-largest Jewish community in the world has raised approximately 100 million Canadian dollars (some $80 million) in assistance to affected communities in Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war on Oct. 7. The funds, raised by the Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA (JFC-UIA), will go toward helping residents of Sderot and other Gaza-area communities who had to be displaced, as well as Israelis from northern towns who were told to leave as a precautionary step should a new flare-up erupt with Lebanon.

According to a statement by the umbrella organization, the funds will be distributed to families of the victims of the Oct. 7 atrocities, as well as go toward the rebuilding of the towns that have been rampaged by Hamas and to purchase emergency medical equipment, food, and supplies to aid evacuees and the wounded in collaboration with the Jewish Agency for Israel and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
Director General of JFC-UIA Canada Sarah Mali said that "the Canadian Jewry is one of the most pro-Zionist communities in the world. The community has been mourning together with their brothers and sisters in Israel for a week now. But alongside the sorrow and shock, we have tremendous philanthropic and community strengths. The Canadian Jewish community that has stood by Sderot for the past 20 years is the community standing with it today, saying, 'We are with you, forever.' We will continue to work with our representatives in the field, paying close attention to the needs of the injured and the displaced and supporting them in the immediate and long term."
