Lhanghal, the eldest son of Bat-Sheva and Gideon Lhanghal, had immigrated to Israel from India a year before the incident. His dream to serve in the IDF was tragically cut short.
Chairperson of KKL-JNF, Ifat Ovadia Luski, said the following: "The Bnei Menashe community has been accompanied by KKL-JNF in recent years. They represent an exciting Zionist story – a community that didn't give up and after years of longing for Israel, succeeded in coming to Israel. The story of the murder of Yoel, shocked us all, and now, together with the Nof Hagalil municipality, we are dedicated to commemorating his memory. We hope that this commemoration will serve as a warning against such terrible cases in the future."
The mayor of Nof Hagalil, Ronen Plot, said that the decision to honor Yoel would preserve his memory and strengthen the values of love for the land and humanity on which he was brought up. "Yoel's plans to enlist in combat service in the IDF and establish a family were brutally cut short, but his memory will remain forever in Nof Hagalil, and in the garden that was created in his name, the city's children and the Bnei Akiva youth will instill the values he was educated on," he said.
