Spain dominated with higher ball possession throughout the match, with more shots, more passes and accuracy, and the determining goal by team captain Carmona at minute 29.
The game kicked off at 10:00 GMT in front of a sold-out crowd of about 75,000 at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
The president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, garnered harsh criticism following the match for kissing forward Jenni Hermoso on the lips during celebrations.
