The Treasury Department announced the decision on Wednesday, saying "The United States rejects Hezbollah's cynical efforts to cloak its destabilizing terrorist activities with false environmentalism."
It explained that "under the cover of GWB outposts, Hezbollah members conduct weapons training at firing ranges, patrol the surrounding area, and maintain containerized housing units 25 meters from the [the de-facto border between Israel and Lebanon known as the] Blue Line.
"Alleged encroachment on private property by GWB and Hezbollah and propagandizing by GWB have also caused well-documented clashes with locals," it said, adding that the installations hindered the work of United Nations Interim Force peacekeepers."
The Treasury Department also sanctions the group and its leader Zuhair Subhi Nahla.
