Israel Police spokesperson said the ramming attack hit several people, prompting nearby police officers to respond to the scene. At some point, the officers shot the perpetrator and his vehicle overturned. He died during the incident and according to some reports, he tried getting out and firing from his makeshift gun but could not do that because it was jammed.
The attack took place near the Manta Ray restaurant on the beach, at a nearby parking lot not far from the David InterContinental Hotel. At least six injured were reported, including 2 in moderate condition.
The first two victims were pedestrians crossing the road, and the rest – at least four – were on the sidewalk after the attacker veered to the right deliberately onto a group of people.
The incident is the second terrorist attack on Friday. Earlier, around noon, three women driving in the Jordan Valley were targeted by terrorists on the road. Two of them, both sisters from Efrat, were pronounced dead on the scene. The third, who is their mother, was evacuated in serious condition.
