Finding your beshert or soul mate is never easy, but the journey to love is even more challenging for those wading into the Jewish dating pool, a new light-hearted video produced by the Ruderman Family Foundation in honor of Valentine's Day suggests.
The video features young Jews in New York revealing the pros and cons when looking for a Jewish partner. Speaking directly to the camera, these Jewish Americans share their deepest, darkest, funniest "confessions" about dating Jewish.

Speaking to young Jews across the religious spectrum, the video sheds light on what it's like to date when you're a minority.
The participants weighed in on how hard it is to find a nice Jewish partner, their most awkward dates, Jewish "red flags," and, yes, even the overbearing Jewish mother.
"Dating Jewish feels like dating family….because it is!" Arielle Kaplan, a digital editor for Hadassah Magazine, joked when discussing the very small Jewish dating pool in New York.
Mark Labradorf, a gay Jewish man in New York agreed, adding that finding a Jewish partner in the LGBT community is even more difficult, so much so that he moved to Los Angeles.
"The dating pools in these gay Jewish dating apps are all the same people. I've dated every gay Jew that will talk to me in New York, so I had to move to LA," he said.
The video touched on more serious subjects as well, like the rise of antisemitism in the United States and that it has influenced some of the participants to only look for a Jewish partner since non-Jews may not necessarily understand how rampant Jew-hatred actually is.
"Relationships and love are complex in today's reality, especially when someone is part of a minority," said Jay Ruderman, president of the Ruderman Family Foundation. "This video helps show both Americans and mainly Israelis one of the biggest difficulties for American Jews - finding a Jewish life partner."
