In what was yet another sign of the growing tensions between Israel and the terrorists in the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced that it had successfully engaged a drone from Gaza on Saturday evening.

Residents of the nearby Sderot heard the interception but the "Color Red" loudspeaker alert system was not activated as the drone had been downed before it could cross the border and before it could threaten populated areas.
The statement issued by the IDF read as follows: "Dear residents, the explosion sound was not from rockets and therefore no alert was activated. The Iron Dome system detected the hostile aircraft and intercepted it over the Gaza Strip."
In recent days, tensions have once again reached a boiling point in the wake of a series of events outside of the Gaza Strip. First, a successful IDF operation in Jenin outraged Hamas after some of its terrorist members, who were working on an imminent threat, were eliminated. Then, a terrorist killed seven people next to a synagogue in Jerusalem just after Shabbat prayers. All the while, rocket fire on Israel's south led to retaliatory airstrikes against Gazan targets.
It is unclear who sent the recent drone and whether it was supposed to carry out an attack.
