The US envoy tasked with reviving the nuclear deal with Iran met with the country's ambassador to the United Nations several times in the past two months despite the renewal of the agreement not officially being "on the agenda," anti-regime outlet Iran International reported Thursday.

The State Department neither confirmed nor denied the meetings between Robert Malley and Saeed Iravani, but said that the US had its channels to communicate messages to the Iranian side, the paper said after reaching out for comment.
The meetings would have occurred amid the continued protests in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the country's so-called "morality" police.
Tehran has been condemned for viscously quelling the riots and executing prisoners, with the European Union even considering to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terror organization.
