Troops were looking to arrest Khaled Abu Zina, but as he was not home at the time, arrested his two sons – Awas and Hani – instead. They were apprehended in an overnight raid on their home in the Jenin refugee camp, reports said.
Heavy clashes were also reported in the camp. Local media said that two Palestinian gunmen were killed in the fighting. They were identified by the Palestinian health officials as 28-year-old Adham Jabareen, a commander in the PIJ's local wing who was wanted by the military and the police, and 38-year-old Jawad Bawaqta, a teacher.
Forces also seized a significant amount of weapons.
Initially, no Israeli casualties were reported, but later one soldier was said to have been injured lightly. Israeli forces were in the area to conduct the raid as part of Operation Breakwater, a counter terrorism operation launched in the summer of 2022 in response to deadly terror attacks by Palestinians in Israel earlier in the year.
