Ovadia Luski, 46, is the first woman to ever hold the position in the organization's 121-year history and will be replacing outgoing chairman Avraham Duvdevani.
She is a member of the Likud and was the first woman to be the party's secretary-general. Before that, she held a variety of positions in the public sector, including headquarters director in the Defense and Science and Technology ministries.
Currently, Ovadia Luski chairs the Department of Hebrew and Culture in the World Zionist Organization.
"The decision of the JNF board of directors today is historic and represents good news. As someone who has been active in national institutions for more than two decades, I'm proud of my selection to lead an important Zionist institution and I am aware of the national responsibility placed on my shoulders," she said after the announcement.
