Over 50 municipalities announced Saturday they will not cooperate with the policies of far-Right lawmaker Avi Maoz, who is a known opponent of LGBTQ rights.

Maoz, who heads the now one-MK Noam party, reached a coalition deal with Prime Minister-elect Benjamin Netanyahu last week and will reportedly oversee a new department in the PMO in charge of strengthening Israel's Jewish identity as well as external school programs. The appointment has prompted fears among teachers and parents about the content Maoz may bring into their childrens' schools.
The politician faced backlash last week after vowing to cancel the Jerusalem Pride Parade, which he called "a promiscuous parade of abomination," when appointed.
Members of Netanyahu's own Likud party said that giving Maoz such control "was a mistake."
"If Maoz will be too much of a trouble and continues to speak out against the Jerusalem Pride Parade, he will find himself outside the coalition. We don't need him, we have 63 Knesset seats without him," one source said.
