According to reports, the terrorist stabbed eight people at a gas station near Ariel and at a second nearby location, after which he stole a car and intentionally crashed into vehicles on Highway 5. The attacker was ultimately shot and killed by security forces. One of the fatalities is 50-years-old Tamir Avihai, from the town of Kiryat Netafim in Judea and Samaria. He was a father of six. "He was an inseparable part of the community," Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan said.

The injured received medical attention at the scene and were hospitalized at Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva. As of Tuesday noon, two of the injured were still in serious condition.

Forces were on the scene of the attack and canvasing the area. Prime Minister-elect Benjamin Netanyahu sent "prayers for the peace of the injured" and expressed support for the security forces operating in the field."

Otzma Yehudit learder Itamar Ben-Gvir said, "Terrorism is not a decree of fate, and we will do everything to eradicate it and restore security to the citizens of the State of Israel. At this difficult time, I pray together with all of the people of Israel for the safety and recovery of those injured in the attack."
