Thousands of people flocked to the Western Wall on Tuesday morning for the traditional Priestly Blessing of the Sukkot holiday, which was held without any coronavirus restrictions for the first time in two years.

The ceremony, during which kohanim bless the Jewish people, began at 9:30 a.m. Police deployed across the Old City amid heightened tensions in the capital and Judea and Samaria.

Another priestly blessing was be held at 10:30 a.m. The traditional ceremony is held twice a year on the intermediate days of the Passover and Sukkot festivals.
A special Torah scroll service will take place at the Western Wall at 06:00 p.m., held every seven years after the end of the shmita, or sabbatical, year. The ceremony, which dates back to the Second Temple Period, is expected to be attended by senior Israeli officials and rabbis.
