American Airlines, the world's larget airline, has purchased 20 Boom Supersonic Overture jets, with the possibility of buying an additional 40, a move that will slash flight times in half, the airline said in a press release on Tuesday.

As such, a flight from Tel Aviv to New York, which currently takes about ten and a half hours, will only take a little over five hours.
According to the press release, the final production design of Overture is slated to roll out in 2025 and carry its first passengers by 2029.
It is being designed to carry 65 to 80 passengers at twice the speed of today's fastest commercial aircraft.
Optimized for speed, safety and sustainability, Overture is also being designed to fly more than 600 routes around the world.
