The Egged bus, operating on the 402 line, ran over several pedestrians and hit a nearby shop.
The reason for the accident was unclear, although it appeared that the driver somehow lost control of the bus. The Israel Police have launched a probe into the accident.

A 49-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman sustained minor injuries in the accident and were taken to the emergency room at Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center. Five other people were evacuated to Hadassah Ein Karem Medical Center with minor injuries, including a woman who is 20 weeks pregnant. A four-year-old boy and a nine-month-old baby sustained moderate injuries.
Paramedic Pnina Goldreich, who was on the scene when the accident occurred, said, "I was in my shop in the lobby of the next-door building and I heard a lot of noise, and glass shattering. I ran out and saw that a bus had hit the stop. Immediately I saw a two-year-old and a woman about 30 lying next to each other, near the back wheel of the bus.
"I checked them, and there were no signs of life. I kept running, looking for injured people. A man came up to me and said they were his relatives, and asked me for help. I saw a young woman, about 21, who was conscious but with bad abrasions on her limbs. I started giving her first aid and very soon a lot of Magen David Adom personnel arrived. I helped them treat the wounded. It was a horrifying accident," Goldreich said.
Ron Retner, spokesman for the Egged bus company, said Thursday that the reason for the accident was not immediately clear and would be investigated by both Egged and the Jerusalem District Police.
"The driver involved is experienced and skilled, and he began his work day that afternoon. He is in shock … Egged expresses deep regret about the unusual accident that happened this evening in Jerusalem, and extends condolences to the families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. We put ourselves in the hands of the accident investigators," Retner said.
