Avidar, who was elected to parliament as part of Avigdor Lieberman's right-wing secular Yisrael Beytenu party, served as a minister in the Prime Minister's Office from 2021 to 2022 and was tasked with handling various issues on behalf of the prime minister. He resigned under the so-called Norwegian law in early February and later that month announced he would not be seeking a slot on Yisrael Beytenu's slate.
Describing the new party as libertarian in nature, Avidar said Free Israel would "serve as a new political home for good citizens with values who see their elected representatives spewing campaign slogans on the screens every evening and at the moment of truth doing exactly the opposite."
"The party will advance a governance reform, a new contract with the citizen, ethics, and will fight for the right of every citizen to self-actualize with respect and life how they see fit," he wrote on social media.
He said it would also promote the criminal defendant bill which seeks to block politicians under indictment from forming a government.

"Those who refused to pass the criminal defendant bill hand a hand in bringing down the 'change government' and continued the Netanyahu government policy of trampling on civil rights," Avidar said, using the nickname given to the coalition formed by Yamina leader Naftali Bennett and Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid in June 2021, ending the Likud leader's 12 years in power.
"It's time for an Israel free from dictators, corruption, coercion, fear, incitement, racism, bullying, exploitation, and from organized crime and irresolute politicians who blur their stances in order to run into Netanyahu's arms at the moment of truth," Avidar stated.
