In a scathing letter to government ministries affiliated with the Right, MKs Orit Struck (Religious Zionist Party) and Yoav Kisch (Likud) warned against such procedures, saying the move would lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state without the need for negotiations as stipulated in previous agreements.
On Saturday, media outlets reported that the Knesset was likely to approve the legalization of the outposts. There are over 800 such localities in Judea and Samaria, the most well-known of which is Khan al-Ahmar, the goal of which, according to the "Fayad Plan" – a strategic building initiative illegally supported through millions of euros by the European Union – is to create a de facto Palestinian state in Area C, which is currently under full Israeli control.
The letter called on the ministries to take action against the "serious step that would violate the status quo" and demand a vote in the Cabinet.
"It is in your power to prevent this step, as well as others of far-reaching political significance, such as President [Biden's] visit to east Jerusalem without official Israeli accompaniment, and the placement of Palestinian officials at the Jordan crossing," it said. "In the months remaining for the transitional government, you are expected to act actively and exercise your full authority by virtue of the coalition agreement and the law, in order to prevent political measures that could lead to a repeat of the Oslo accords."
