Hours after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would step down, a diplomatic official told Israel Hayom that the "relationship with the UK is at an all-time high."

The official said that "this is also because Johnson is a true friend of Israel and a personal friend of Prime Minister Yair Lapid." The official added that "Israel has a whole array of friends in leadership positions in Britain as both countries share the same values and interests, with great relations between the two foreign ministries that include a strategic plan to promote the ties, formulated by Lapid and his British counterpart Liz Truss."
The change of leadership in the UK is not expected affect the ties, in part because the UK and the Conservative Party are considered pro-Israel, and the UK has subscribed to a tough posture on Iran, as was evident during the talks leading up to the 2015 agreement (during which London asked Washington to improve the provisions in the draft text).
The likely candidates in the Conservative Party's leadership race are all considered to be pro-Israel and will most likely adopt the same strong approach on Iran. The fact that some of those who could become prime minister have a Muslim background bears no significance since they have all been pro-Israel all throughout their career.
