The little-known "Sharp Boys" hacker group claimed it breached the websites of the Dan and Isrotel hotel chains, as well as those of Mini Hotel and the Trivago travel price comparison website, to name a few.
The breach is believed to have exposed the personal information of some 120,000 Israelis. It is unclear if the hackers were able to get their hands on sensitive information such as ID numbers, addresses, and credit card numbers.
Last year, "Sharp Boys" claimed to have hacked two leading Israeli hiking equipment companies, gaining access to the personal data of some 3 million users. It offered to sell the information for $300,000.
At the time, Israeli cybersecurity experts said that while "Sharp Boys" appeared to be a random group, its methods were similar to those used by Black Shadow – an Iranian-linked group that often unleashes ransomware attacks.
Sources in the hotel chains denied being hacked. This would not be the first time hackers post hollow vaunts about hacking Israeli companies.
