On the opening night of the Samaria Film Festival, to be held at the Ariel Cultural Hall, Culture and Sports Minister Chili Tropper and Moshe Edri, the owner of the Cinema City and United King movie theaters will present the award for the Samarian Oscar. The movie "Portrait of Victory" will also be screened as a gesture to its director Avi Nesher, who will be in attendance at the festival.
Actor and writer Shalom Assayag will host the event.
"Our goal is not just to receive culture but to export culture," Samaria Regional Council head and festival founder Yossi Dagan said. "The Judea and Samaria region has reached the important stage in which it is not just construction but also the construction of culture and spirit that determines [the reality]. And we are pleased that so many friends from the heart of the film industry have joined us here."
Ester Allouche is running the festival. She is also the director of the Samaria Cinema Fund, which was established to encourage cinematic creation in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. Launched three years ago, the fund has provided financial support for 70 movies filmed in Judea and Samaria.
