"I aspired to a faster result, but ultimately, I managed to win anyway. I earned the first gold medal for Israel. I'm glad I succeeded in getting it and hope to continue to represent Israel with honor in the coming heats. I still have the 50- and 200-meter freestyle, which are my strong suits. The competition will be tough, and I look forward to swimming them to the best of my ability," Dadoun said.
Israeli swimmer Mark Maylar also medaled at the competition, earning a bronze in the 100-meter breaststroke event.
Culture and Sports Minister Chili Tropper congratulated Dadoun and Maylar on their achievements.
"Ami once again proved he is a real winner, who is determined and has extraordinary abilities. Congratulations also to Mark Maylar for winning bronze at the world championships. We are very proud to have you representing us! Way to go!" she said in a statement.
Israel Paralympic Committee Chairman Ehud Ratzabi said, "This talented group - national coach Yaakov Benenson's swimmers - proved once again that effort and tough training pays off. I know how much each of them needs to invest, how many hours of training, and how many concessions you have to make, and we all see the terrific results at the world championships. We see your determination and responsibility. Thank you, dear Mark and Ami, for the joy and pride you've given us tonight."
