The IDF confirmed that security forces were operating in Wadi Burqin, near the entrance to the Jenin refugee camp. The unusual daytime raid in the city, an infamous Islamic Jihad stronghold, was part of an operation to arrest terror suspect Mohammad al-Tubasi.
According to Palestinian media, the troops had surrounded the suspect's home in the Al-Hadaf neighborhood but he refused to turn himself in. Terrorists barricaded in the house with him opened fire, prompting Israeli soldiers to respond with gunfire as well as with the tactical fire of anti-tank shells.
He surrendered soon after that. The IDF said two M16 rifles and a military vest were seized at his home.
Overnight, Israeli security forces arrested 15 suspected terrorists across Judea and Samaria in an operation that involved military, police, and Shin Bet security service officers.
The troops raided the West Bank villages of Sawahera, Tzurif, Qarawat Bani Hassan, several locations in Nablus, and Harmala, from which the terrorist who infiltrated the Jewish community of Tekoa earlier this month hails.
The Palestinians reported heavy exchanges of fire and casualties near Jenin during the nightly raid.
