The Israeli Archery Association confirmed that coach Guy Matzkin will be stepping down and will be replaced with Priestman.
The 66-year-old archery icon was a member of the British squad that won the team bronze medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Games. He also participated in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
After hanging up his bow, Priestman made the move to training, leading Brazil as coach at the South American Games in Chile in 2014 and later Colombia as coach at the Central American Games in Mexico in 2014 and the Pan-American Games 2015 in Canada.
Priestman also served as senior coach for the British squad, ArcheryGB, at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Last year he visited Israel for a masterclass to the senior members of the national archery team.
"We thank Guy for his tremendous contribution to the development of archery as a sport in Israel, the progress made by Israel's archery teams, and for his support to every member of the team," the Archery Association said in a statement. "We wish Richard Priestman the best of luck as he joins us as the team's coach."
