"You, young cyclists, are the answer and the best revenge on those who wanted to eliminate the Jewish people. And it is our duty to remember this and upon you rests the responsibility to persevere and bring the Jewish people back to pre-World War II dimensions," Sylvan Adams, Israeli-Canadian businessman and honorary president of the Israel Cycling Federation.
The event was dedicated to the memory of Adam's parents.
Dafna Lang, the chairwoman of the association, said, "This is the beginning of a tradition. For me, as a chairwoman who has just taken office, I've made education my motto, especially on a sad and difficult day such as this."
As part of the event, participants listened to a lecture on the story of Italian cyclist Gino Bartali, who saved 800 Italian Jews during the Holocaust and was named Righteous Among the Nations.
