The company pulled dozens of products off the shelves nationwide in what is the largest food recall to take place in Israel to date. Several subsidiaries and companies using Strauss Group's chocolate in their products have announced small-scale recalls as well, citing precautionary measures.
"A few samples containing the salmonella bacteria were discovered in the factory's production line and in the chocolate used as a raw material to create products," Strauss Group said in a statement. "Strauss stresses that with the detection of the problem, the chocolate was banned from consumption, the production of various chocolate products was stopped in the factory, and the goods were blocked from distribution."
The recall includes some of the most popular snacks in Israel, including the company's iconic Parra Chocolate and Pesek Zman bars. Its Magnum ice crime bars have also been pulled out of freezers across the country.
Salmonella can cause intestinal disease marked by fever, diarrhea, vomiting and stomach aches. So far, two cases related to the infections have been detected.
