Streaming giant Netflix on Tuesday announced plans to air the critically acclaimed Israeli drama The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem.

The show will air as a special edition version starting on May 20. The current run will include 20, one-hour episodes.
Starring Swell Ariel Or, Michael Aloni, Hila Saada, Irit Kaplan, Mali Levi, Tom Hagi, Eli Steen, Israel Ogalbo, Miki Kam, and Irit Kaplan, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is a multi-generational historical drama that tells the story of the Ermosa family – cursed to marry and live without love.
Spanning the early to the mid-20th century across the time of the Ottoman Empire, The British Mandate, and Israel's War of Independence, the series was shot across Israel in Hebrew, English, Ladino and Arabic.
"Adapted from the bestselling novel by the same name, this colorful, passionate and tragic series, interwoven with Judeo-Spanish traditions, is set against the backdrop of resistance to the Turkish regime, and the underground war with the British," producer Yes said on the show's website.
Created by Shlomo Mashiach, Oded Davidoff, and Ester Namdar Tamam, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is based on a 2013 novel by Sarit Yishai-Levi. The show was directed by Oded Davidoff and produced by Yes TV and Artza Productions.
International distribution is headed by Yes Studios and the show has also been sold to distributors in the US, UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, and Argentina.
The show has won four Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2021, including for best daytime drama and best actress, for Kaplan.
