Litzman has been serving in the Knesset for 23 years and served as the de facto health minister for over a decade. Earlier this year, he announced plans to retire from politics. Litzman stepped down as head of United Torah Judaism last year, after 18 years at its helm. MK Moshe Gafni was then installed as the Haredi faction's leader.
