A police officer sustained minor injuries in the early Tuesday morning after being stabbed by an undocumented Palestinian in an apparent terrorist attack during a routine operation in the southern city of Ashkelon.

According to available details, the officer approached the man to ask for identification and the suspect pulled out a knife and attacked him, inflicting minor wounds. The officer "responded quickly, fired, and neutralized the suspect," the Israel Police said in a statement.
Magen David Adom paramedics tranfered the officer, 37, to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon for treatment.
The suspect has been identified as a Palestinian in his 40s from Hebron, who had entered Israel illegally. No word was given as to his condition.
Tuesday's terrorist attack is the latest incident in the wave fo terror that reared its head in March, so far claiming the lives of 13 Israelis.
