Time management, or mismanagement, in the workplace is a major stressor for employees, a new report by Israeli calendar startup Magical reveals.

In its "State of Time Report," Magical – which is developing a collaborative calendar that allows teams to plan and optimize their work – lays out the findings of a survey that asked more than 1,000 employed adults 18 and over about issues of workplace time management.
Magical found that the transition to remote and hybrid work prompted by the COVID pandemic has exacerbated long-standing issues pertaining to how companies manage their employees' time.
More than half (56%) of respondents said their mental health has suffered due to stress caused by continual time mismanagement at their jobs, and 62% said they would consider a pay cut of up to 10% if it meant they could work a four-day week.
More than two-thirds (67%) said they considered quitting their jobs at least once a month due to frustrations caused by time mismanagement at their places of work, and 76% said they felt overwhelmed by their work calendars at least once a month.
When it comes to meetings, 61% of employees surveyed said they were most productive in meetings that lasted less than 30 minutes, but 83% reported that the average length of meetings had either stayed the same or increased as they shifted to remote and/or hybrid working setups during COVID.
"While COVID-19 accelerated the transition to hybrid and remote work, our findings make it clear that status quo workplace time management practices have not evolved," said Tommy Barav, co-founder and CEO of Magical.
"The future of work is at an inflection point as the antiquated processes, policies, and technologies of years past don't sync with the demands of the modern-day workforce," Barav said.
"Our findings indicate that despite more of the workforce operating from the comforts of home, most employees are operating in working environments that are not optimizing their time," says Barav. "Even as more work has shifted home, the stresses associated with the traditional office place have followed suit."
