The 22-year-old Ashram ends an illustrious career with no less than 47 medals in international competitions, including 11 world championship medals (six of them silver, five bronze) and twice being named European champion.
Ashram, from Rishon Lezion in central Israel, is the first Israeli woman to win an Olympic gold medal.
The Israel Gymnastics Federation has already offered Ashram a role on the coaching staff of the Israeli rhythmic gymnastics team, alongside her long-time coach Ayelet Zussman.
Shortly after her historic performance in Tokyo, Ashram sat down with Israel Hayom to discuss her journey to the top of rhythmic gymnastics, the drama with her Russian rival during the scoring in the Tokyo finals, and the pressures she faced on the eve of her gold-medal victory.
