The Foreign Ministry has confirmed the report and said the Israeli consul in Guatemala visited the detained woman and is in constant touch with her and her parents.
The exact nature of the crime, and subsequent punishment, is yet unclear. Guatemala, a country with widespread illegal drug trafficking, is considered to have one of the harshest prison conditions in the world.
