The recent spate of winter weather in Israel created a type of migratory "traffic jam" in the Hula Valley, but as the skies cleared on Monday, tens of thousands of storks, cranes, and other fowl flew off to continue their journey north.

The massive spring migration is expected to continue for the next few weeks of March and April.

The Hula Valley is one of the most important nesting sites in Israel and the migratory route in general. It serves as a critical stop for birds migrating between Africa, Asia, and Europe, both in terms of the rich variety of food it offers and the safe haven it provides for birds en route.
