On Wednesday, Knesset Speaker Mickey Levy received the request but as the MPs break for recess this week, it was unclear whether this could be done. But in the wake of the conversation, this has been resolved and a special Knesset session will be held for the event.
The Ukrainian ambassador said he would relay the invitation to the Ukrainian president and the two sides will discuss the logistical details and finalize a date for the address to the 120 members of the Israeli parliament.
On Wednesday, Yisrael Beytenu MK Eli Avidar demanded Levy allow Zelenskyy to address the Knesset in person, as he did this week when he spoke before the British parliament.
"I have appealed to the speaker of the Knesset to allow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the Knesset in person, as he has requested," Avidar tweeted.
"The Knesset is not the executive arm of the government and it must accept a request from a state leader who wants to speak before the public's representatives.
"Any attempt to dodge this request puts us, as elected officials, on the wrong side of history," Avidar asserted.
