Israel Prize laureate Yona Fischer, the founder and director of the Ashdod Museum of Art, dies over the weekend. He was 89.

Considered one of the most prominent curators in Israel, Fischer, who served as the chief curator and artistic advisor of the Ashdod Museum of Art between 2004 and 2011, has largely defined the field in the country.
He recorded a great deal of cultural activity in Israel and around the world during his 70-year career. In 1977 he was honored with the Israel Prize for design.
